Stephanie Philippaerts
Medical/scientific illustrator
From an early age, I have always been fascinated by the wonders of nature and the complexity of the human body. A deep curiosity for medicine, anatomy, and science naturally grew alongside another lifelong passion: drawing. With a strong eye for detail and a love for visual storytelling, I spent countless hours sketching, observing, and trying to understand how everything fits together.
When the opportunity arose to pursue the Master Scientific Illustration program in Maastricht, it immediately felt like the perfect combination of my interests and ambitions. It brought together my passion for art, science, and precise communication in a way that truly resonated with me.
In 2015, I completed my Master’s thesis about Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a wonderful collaboration with the departments of cardiac surgery and pediatric cardiology at University Hospitals Leuven. In view of my graduation, I already started my own business as a medical illustrator in 2014.
What once started as a creative outlet now evolved into a professional journey filled with inspiring collaborations and exciting opportunities. Over the years, the studio has grown into a flourishing business, working with healthcare professionals, researchers, publishers, and medical institutions from all over the world.
